FAQ
What is a (our) jam session
A jam session is a (live) music event where musicians get together for informal, improvised interplay. Bands as well as individual musicians can play and jam at our session in Tojeiro (Monchique). There is no stylistic orientation, but the organisers reserve the right to control and steer the situation a little.
How is it organized and who is in charge?
Franco is the organizer of the session. Register with him before the session. You can do this by email: maltikor at mail.de
When will I perform?
Sign in with Franco and you will be told when it’s your turn
What is performed?
There are no stylistic rules. Everything that is handmade music is welcome. We are very open to originals. As there are countless ‘cover bands’, especially in the Algarve, we prefer own compositions or improvisations.
Can anyone take part in the session?
Anyone who has mastered their instrument to a certain level can take part. Beginners are also welcome. If so make sure you tell the other players and the host (Franco) so they know what to expect and you’ll be fine.
How is it performed?
Everything depends on the registered musicians. There is the possibility that musicians get a solo spot. It is possible that the musicians get to know each other on location and decide to play together. And there is the option for Franco to organise the players as a band.
How long is each performance/set?
This depends on the number of musicians and the dynamics of the evening. Each act definitely gets enough time to express their art.
What equipment is provided?
We provide:
A drum-set, a guitar-amp,a bass-amp and a P.A. System.
We also have vocal microphones, but for hygiene reasons it is better to use your own microphone.
Do I have to bring my own instrument?
Yes, everyone feels most comfortable with their own instrument. Please also bring your cable from the instrument to the amplifier. It is possible to bring your own amplifier. Please let us know in advance. Drummers please bring your own sticks. Drummers can also bring their own snare, cymbals or foot machine, but do not have to. The situation with the microphones has already been addressed.
What if I sing, but don’t play an instrument?
The voice is of course also an instrument and the singer is integrated into a set accordingly. Once again, there is the opportunity for people to get to know each other on location and decide to play something together.
Do I have to pay to play?
No, registered musicians do not have to pay admission. However, if you would like to support the event financially, this is possible. There will also be free beer for registered musicians.
Catering
We will have Pizza, Beer, Longdrinks, Cocktails and Aperitifs
What else?
Be prepared. Tune your instruments before you go on stage. Untie the cables beforehand. This all costs time on stage that can be used for performing.
Finally
Everything is in the process of development. We are changing, improving and growing. We try to organise the event as well as possible for you and ourselves. If you have any constructive criticism, please send us a message.
